Date Idea: Paint Pottery

Need something to mix up your typical dinner and a movie date? Tired of doing the same old, same old? Well, here’s an idea– find out if your town or one nearby has a place where you can paint your own pottery. Now, you might be thinking to yourself, I couldn’t draw a stick figure if my life depended on it! That’s okay, you don’t have to be an artist to have a good time, and you don’t even have to draw on your pottery– you can just paint solid colors if you want to keep it simple and safe.

Paint your own pottery

The before and after of a piece of pottery!

This is such a great date idea because you can paint pieces for each other (this is what Jeff and I do) or you could work on a piece together which could make it really interesting!  I will warn you though, this is not a cheap date.  You usually have to pay a studio fee ($5-$9) to paint and then pay for whatever piece of pottery you’re going to paint.  Most places have half-time studio fees on different days and times so so a little researching and planning before you go.

Oh, and this is not only a great date idea, but you can also take the kids.  An idea might be to do a piece a year and see how their artistic skills develop as they grow.  I think we might start this this year with our two boys.  This is also a great idea for a birthday party too or a gift for Grandma or Grandpa.  The possibilities are endless…

The back of our plates-- a great place to put the date so you can remember.

My husband and I just went recently to The Mudd Room in Columbia, Missouri.  We painted two salad plates for $8 each, and then we each paid $4.00 for a studio time which is half the normal amount because we went during a happy hour time.  Altogether, our total was $25.18…like I said, not a cheap date, but definitely a fun and memorable one.
